CHRISTOPHER WARD C65 DIVETIMER SPECIAL EDITION

Introduction

Christopher Ward first used the C65 name in 2014 when they introduced a 43mm dress style variation of the Mk2 C60 dive watch called the C65 Trident Classic. Next came a C65 Trident Classic Vintage, which used a variation of the 38mm Mk2 C60 case in 2016.

CW first dipped their toe into the ‘retro dive’ water in mid 2018 with the hand-wound C65 Trident Diver, which was available with either blue, green or black face. Unlike the previous two C65s, which were variations of C60s, the C65 Trident Diver was an all-new design and it proved to be an instant hit, paving the way for all manor of new models and special editions and arguably challenging the C60 for the most popular model crown.

The C65 Divetimer Special Edition for sale here was effectively the swan-song model for the ‘original’ C65 Driver before the Aquitaine took over the C65 reins. It was launched in July 2021 and was CW’s first ever limited edition model to sell out on the day it was released! 150 pieces exist. The face features a decompression scale to help you calculate decompression stops as you ascend from a deep dive.

The story of the C65 Divetimer Special Edition begins in 1962 with Dr Hannes Keller – physicist, mathematician and extreme deep-sea diver. The watch is powered by the hand-wound Sellita SW210 movement, being used for the last time in a Christopher Ward watch. The movement has a power reserve of 42 hours, and thanks to its 3.35mm height, the watch’s Light-catcher™ case is both slim and elegant.

The dial is dominated by the precision-printed decompression scale, with bands of orange contrasting with the deep blue base. The brushed and polished indices – vital when using the scale – add depth and clarity, with legibility enhanced by the bâton-style hands.

It comes on a lightly used blue CW Tropic rubber strap.
