Christopher Ward C5 Malvern 595 Gold
If my memory serves me correctly, Christopher Ward’s first ever watch, the C5 Malvern automatic, was launched with a gold-plated finish, but that didn’t exactly set the scene for very much use of the precious metal and as time went on, with CW offering gold watches less and less as time went on.
I can think of only five gold CW watches: that C5 I’ve already mentioned, early C3s, a brief appearance as a C4 option (pretty out-there choice for a sport watch!), then after a few years off it popped up on the C65 Mk2 Classic and then again in 2018 this C5 595 was the first time it’s been used in several years. So what’s offered here is the last watch which CW made available in gold.
I never appreciated how remarkable the Malvern 595 really is until I first held one in my hands. At just 5.95mm high, it’s the slimmest watch Christopher Ward watch has ever produced by over 2mm (the previous thinnest being the 8.25mm C5 Slimline Square).
It’s a sleek, classic, and (obviously) very slim dress watch which at 39mm diameter screams subtlety and class in equal quantities.
No longer available from Christopher Ward (when it was, it cost £595 on a leather strap), the C5 Malvern 595 was launched in Jan 2018 and was retired at the end of 2019 - with the last few pieces being sold in a brief 2020 release. I bought this particular watch in July 2020, making it one of the very last/youngest in existence. With the 60 month Christopher Ward movement warranty being transferrable, it’s covered to July 2025. This is the only 595 I have available in this colour, so it’s likely this will be the last last new gold 595 that you’ll find.
