Elliot Brown Tyneham
Introduction
Whilst it’s mostly about CW, it’s not all about CW. There are some fantastic other brands out there that I’ve had as part of my own collection that operate a similar space to CW. I’m not talking your Rolex, Omega or Tudor, more your Halios, Pinion, Monta, anOrdian or Zero West.
This is one such smaller brand. I currently have one in my own collection and it is such a tough, rugged, go anywhere watch. You certainly don’t need to baby it. Elliot Brown was founded by the former management team of Animal watches (for those that remember those in the 90s - I had several).
I’ve just obtained a second one in a different colour - I’m going to keep one of them, don’t mind which one, so they are both up for sale and whichever one goes first, I’ll keep the other one.
So, here we have a limited edition Tyneham, named after one of EB’s favourite UK coastal destinations. The 41mm stainless steel case is coated in gunmetal PVD. It’s not a shrinking violet - it has a lug to lug length of 50.5mm and a case thickness of 15mm giving the watch good wrist presence. It feels substantial and ready for anything.
The lugs are drilled and unusually have a screw for attachment rather than the usual springbar. This makes strap swapping a cinch with the use of the provided screwdriver and also makes it incredibly secure.
At 4 o’clock there is a signed triple-sealed crown with knurling for extra grip. The stepped bezel is case-hardened for scratch resistance. A recessed bevel-edged sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a matte black dial. An outer minute chapter ring surrounds a seconds track with lume plots, large Arabic numerals and batons all coated in SuperLuminova marking the hours.
It also has a 40-hour power reserve indicator. I find this an incredibly useful addition to a watch - it tells you how much charge is in the spring.
Broad sword hands complemented by an orange-tipped sweeping second hand complete this highly legible field watch inspired timepiece. At 12 o’clock the Elliot Brown motif.
On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back with deep engraving around its edge. Inside an Automatic Miyota 9130, the movement floats inside a proprietary shock absorption system and has hacking and hand winding for your convenience. The watch comes on a Zuludiver rubber strap that has been reduced to 20mm to fit. It also comes with its original EB fitted 20mm rubber strap with a signed buckle and its Elliot Brown presentation box.
Condition
The watch itself is good used condition with the odd scratch and ding around the case, but if you are worried about that, it’s not the type of watch for you!
No longer available in the UK - RRP was £895 when they were on sale.
Timing is spot on at +/- 0 spd on the timegrapher.
Warranty
The Elliot Brown warranty has now expired, so it comes with a three month Ward Hoard warranty.
