C4 Peregrine Chronograph on brown Alligator strap (2010)
C4 Peregrine Chronograph on brown Alligator strap (2010)
Christopher Ward C4 Peregrine Chronograph
When the C4 Peregrine was first launched in 2006, it, along with the rest of the CW range (C1 to C6) all carried a subtle "SWISS MOVT" at the bottom of their dials, because while the movements were Swiss, the watches weren't assembled in Switzerland as they are now (Swiss-assembled watches can carry the "SWISS MADE" tag.)
The watch for sale here is one of the later C4s, so it carries the “SWISS MADE” tag. A few other things give it away as a later one: first the box, it comes in CW’s second box design. Second: the strap; it has fitted shoulders and a butterfly deployant clasp - earlier straps had tang buckles with twin pins and universal shoulders. And the final reason I know it’s a late model: the Certificate of authenticity is dated March 2010!
At first launch, the C4 cost just £140 on a leather strap! By the time of its retirement in 2011, the leather model had climbed to £275 and the bracelet or alligator strap version was £385.
The C4 is Christopher Ward's only watch to use the ISA 8174-220 quartz movement, making it unique as the only CW watch to feature an alarm function. The alarm time is set by adjusting the blue 'alarm' hand and the bottom left button switches it on and off: two beeps for on and one beep for off. The C4 was available in a multitude of different colour and strap combinations, with blue, red, black, panda and silver face options. Then there were silver, gold and black cases with various strap and bracelet options.
The watch in this listing is the C4 SST, signifying S for silver case, S for silver face and T for brown strap - in the case of this particular watch, the strap is alligator. The strap bought on its own cost £125 back in the day.
Condition
For a used watch that's almost 13 years old it's in extremely good condition. There are inevitable light blemishes dotted around the head and the strap shows obvious wear, but I’d still describe it as being in very good and very original condition.
It’s just a had a new battery fitted, so should be good for the next 3-4 years depending on how much the alarm and chrono are used. I also had it pressure tested, which it passed.
Supplied in original box including owner’s book (with certificate of authenticity) and original polishing cloth.
