Christopher Ward C70 Monte Carlo Limited Edition

The C70 MC was the eighth member of the C70 Grand Prix series, launched in 2011 to celebrate 100 years of the Monte Carlo Rally. The 40-page Owner’s Handbook gives a nice introduction to the eight-piece range. Unlike the other seven C70 GP models, which had engraved case backs, the MC benefits from a nice coloured inlay of the original rallye grille badge - paving the way for similar flag treatments in the case-backs of later C70 GP COSC models.

The watch for sale here is number 179 of 500 and was originally sold in May 2012, so at time of writing is 8.5 years old. It’s just come back from Christopher Ward (Nov 2020) where it had a new battery installed and was given a clean bill of health, so should be good for another 3-5 years, depending on how much the chronograph is used.

The C70 MC’s stylish face and motorsport-inspired details make it a very collectable piece.

Condition
The C70’s exposed alloy bezel and thinly applied paint make it notoriously delicate, so finding the older ones in good condition is becoming increasingly challenging (CW has long since exhausted its supply of replacement bezels/cases). The watch in this listing is in remarkably good condition - in fact I’ve not seen one this good for several years. Both the watch head and original (fitted end) strap are in great condition. You can see light signs of use on both, but it’s in fantastic condition and has clearly spent far more of its life in storage than it has on a wrist.

It’s presented in the original deluxe wooden case with red internals and engraved name plaque. As you can see in the photographs, some of the red top surface is becoming delicate and starting to lift away - a minor cosmetic issue, but worth pointing out that it’s no longer perfect. Also included are a covering letter, the original Owner’s Handbook with Certificate of Authenticity, and an unused polishing cloth.
