CHRISTOPHER WARD C65 TRIDENT GMT
Christopher Ward first used the C65 name in 2014 when they introduced a 43mm dress style variation of the Mk2 C60 dive watch called the C65 Trident Classic. Next came a C65 Trident Classic Vintage, which used a variation of the 38mm Mk2 C60 case in 2016.
CW first dipped their toe into the ‘retro dive’ water in mid 2018 with the hand-wound C65 Trident Diver (which cost of £700 at the time). Unlike the previous two C65s, which were variations of C60 cases, the C65 Trident Diver was an all-new design and it proved to be an instant hit, paving the way for all manor of new models and special editions and arguably challenging the C60 for ‘the most popular model’ crown.
The watch for sale here is the Automatic GMT model which was first introduced in August 2018 and was retired in January of this year. When available from CW, these cost £950 for the rubber/leather models and £1,050 on the bracelet.
For those not familiar with how a GMT operates, they have a second ‘hour’ hand which takes 24h to complete one lap of the dial - so 12 midnight on the GMT hand would be at 12 o’clock and 12 noon would be at the usual 6 o’clock. That makes it perfect for instantly knowing the time in a second time zone (perhaps at home if you’re in another country). By rotating the bezel to set the bezel’s 24h markings to another time zone, you can instantly tell the time in a third location.
The C65 Trident Diver uses a 41mm case which sits perfectly on pretty much any size wrist. Its slim and sculpted case and bezel sit well below the super-strong and scratch resistant sapphire crystal, making it appear even slimmer than its stated 12mm height.
Condition:
It’s in like new condition. It has been worn, so you might find signs of use under magnified inspection, but for my check over it seems spotless (apologies for the finger prints in some pics 🤦♂️).
The black CW Hybrid rubber strap does have some slight creasing/curving from occasional use and from being stored on a watch roll when not being worn.
On the Timegrapher it’s showing as keeping time at +5 seconds per day, so just inside COSC specifications and well within CW’s +/-20sec tolerance. (This is not a COSC certified model by the way)
It comes boxed in the correct original CW bamboo case, however it’s unfortunately missing its paperwork. So while I’ve advertised it as being a 2018 watch, it could actually be far younger. The oldest it could be in August 2018, so in the unlikely event of a mechanical issue, it should technically be covered by the CW Warranty until August 2022, however we can’t assume CW will support a watch with no card, so assume it will come with a 90 day Ward Hoard movement cover.
