Christopher Ward C65 Trident Diver SH21 Limited Edition
I’m not gonna lie, I don’t really want you to buy this watch! There are 149 more of these in existence, so it’s well worth trying to find one of those instead!
This SH21-powered C65 with its small second and power reserve sub dials is probably my favourite Christopher Ward: the 41mm size is perfect on almost any wrist (especially mine!), it looks just as good with a suit as it does with jeans and a t-shirt and the COSC-certified, 120 hour power reserve calibre means it can rest for days, yet the time is still right when you pick it up - I can’t say any of my other Wards can tick those boxes.
It was launched in September 2019 at £1,800 on a leather or canvas strap or £1,900 on a bracelet and it sold out within a few months. With the more recent C60- Apex and C60 Concept models costing almost double, this watch starts to look a real bargain! If ever there was a CW destined to be a future classic, this one is it. Those retail prices did make it one of the most expensive CW watches you could buy at the time, but when you see it in the metal and get it on your wrist, it’s easy to see it’s a top end watch limited edition watch which is worth spending strong money on.
It’s a September 2019 watch, so approx 2.5 years old at the time of writing - so still well within its 4 year movement warranty (or 5 years if serviced by CW between 36-48 months old).
These SH21-powered C65s are becoming increasingly difficult to come by, with owners justifiably keen to keep hold of them. I recall seeing three change hands in 2021 and I wouldn’t be surprised if that drops to one or two for 2022.
Condition
The watch is in fantastic used condition. It has seen wrist time as part of a larger collection, so there are some light blemishes here and there, but nothing that would put me off of buying it. The sapphire and bezel are pristine. The only marks to report are a tiny blemish on the left side of the case, a couple of very small ones on the case back and the regular light stuff you can expect on a few on the bracelet links and the clasp. If I had to put a number on it, I’d say it’s 98% perfect.
On the timegrapher it’s keeping near perfect time at +1sec - well within the -4 to +6 specified by COSC.
Supplied as a full set including bamboo case, owner’s book, warranty card, COSC certificate, removed bracelet links and unused polishing cloth.
