CHRISTOPHER WARD C65 TRIDENT GMT V1
Introduction
When Christopher Ward launched the retro style C65 Trident Diver in 2018 they will have hoped it was a success, but I doubt they were expecting it to be quite as successful as it has been. It’s been a great seller and has already spawned many different iterations.
The watch for sale here is known as the ‘Pepsi’ thanks to its two-tone red and blue bezel - this is the second Pepsi made by CW, the first being a Mk1 C60 Trident Pro GMT from 2010.
If you’re not familiar with GMT watches, they feature an additional hour hand which takes 24 hours to complete one rotation of the dial - making it a perfect international travel partner. This is because you can set the regular hands to your local time and the 24h GMT hand to ‘home’, (the blue bezel zone would be night and the red zone would be daytime) so you can instantly see the time at home and avoid accidentally calling your partner at 3 in the morning to say “hi”! By rotating the bezel, and therefore moving ‘midnight’ to elsewhere on the dial, you can create a third time zone.
V1 Vs V2
If you’d done your homework on these watches you might have seen mentions of V1 and V2.
The watch for sale here is a V1 (which accounts for around 90% of sales from what I’ve seen on the resale market), so it has the SW330 movement with 42h power reserve and has a pop-out crown.
The final batch of C65 GMTs (including Pepsis, non Pepsis and Worldtimers etc. usually sold in 2022) were fitted with SW330-2 movements, so power reserve went from 42 to 56h and they had screw-down crowns.
One other identifier of a 330-2 movement compared to a 330 is that on the 330-2, the GMT had jumps two positions for one twist of the crown, but the 330 only jumps one position.
