Elliot Brown Tyneham
Introduction
Whilst it’s mostly about CW, it’s not all about CW. There are some fantastic other brands out there that I’ve had as part of my own collection that operate a similar space to CW. I’m not talking your Rolex, Omega or Tudor, more your Halios, Pinion, Monta, anOrdian or Zero West.
This is one such smaller brand. I currently have one of these in my own collection and it is such a tough, rugged, go anywhere watch. You certainly don’t need to baby it. Elliot Brown was founded by the former management team of Animal watches (for those that remember those in the 90s - I had several).
I’ve just taken in six Elliot Browns from a CW collector that are all in fantastic condition, two Bloxworths, two Canfords and two Tynehams. All barely worn and complete with all boxes.
So, here we have a Tyneham, named after one of EB’s favourite UK coastal destinations.
As EB says “An automatic you can wear without anxiety, the Tyneham is equipped with exquisitely considered details. Everything you need and nothing you don’t packed into a 41mm case so proportionally balanced that it demands a second glance.
Tyneham collection is inspired by one of our favourite UK coastal retreats and built to thrive in harsh conditions. Competence is delivered in many guises and there’s something incredibly satisfying in knowing you’re wearing an object of such detail yet ultimately so capable.”
The lugs are drilled and unusually have a screw for attachment rather than the usual springbar. This makes strap swapping a cinch with the use of the provided screwdriver and also makes it incredibly secure.
At 4 o’clock there is a signed triple-sealed crown with knurling for extra grip. The stepped bezel is case-hardened for scratch resistance. A recessed bevel-edged sapphire crystal AR coated sits above a matte black dial. An outer minute chapter ring surrounds a seconds track with lume plots, large Arabic numerals and batons all coated in SuperLuminova marking the hours.
It also has a 40-hour power reserve indicator. I find this an incredibly useful addition to a watch - it tells you how much charge is in the spring.
Broad sword hands complemented by a sweeping second hand complete this highly legible field watch inspired timepiece. At 12 o’clock, the Elliot Brown motif.
On the reverse, a screw-down exhibition case back with deep engraving around its edge. Inside an Automatic Miyota 9130, the movement floats inside a proprietary shock absorption system and has hacking and hand winding for your convenience.
It’s fitted with a fabulous EB brown leather strap with deployment strap. Used and in excellent condition.
