SOLD - C65 Trident Diver Black Gold Limited Edition (2021)
CHRISTOPHER WARD C65 TRIDENT DIVER BLACK GOLD LIMITED EDITION
Christopher Ward first used the C65 name in 2014 when they introduced a 43mm dress style variation of the Mk2 C60 dive watch called the C65 Trident Classic (I have one for sale here). Next came a C65 Trident Classic Vintage, which used a variation of the 38mm Mk2 C60 case in 2016.
CW first dipped their toe into the ‘retro dive’ water in mid 2018 with the hand-wound C65 Trident Diver, which had a steel case and was available with either blue, green or black face at a cost of £700. Unlike the previous two C65s, which were variations of C60s, the C65 Trident Diver was an all-new design and it proved to be an instant hit, paving the way for all manor of new models and special editions and arguably challenging the C60 for the most popular model crown.
The watch for sale here is one of a 200-piece Limited Edition run of Black Gold watches which was first introduced at the end of 2019 at a cost of £845. It sold out by January 2021 and this is one of those final few watches to leave Park Street.
The C65 Trident Diver uses a 41mm case which sits perfectly on pretty much any size wrist. Its slim and sculpted case and bezel sit well below the super-strong and scratch resistant sapphire crystal, making it appear even slimmer than its stated 11.5mm height.
I’d describe the colour as a deep and tinted rose gold that appears copper-like in some lights. It’s not simply plated on like the old days, it’s applied using the PVD (physical vapor deposition) propcess, making it an extremely hard-wearing and long-lasting coating.
It’s powered by a hand-wound and dateless version of the reliable Sellita SW210 mechanical movement.
Condition:
I bought this from the original owner as being in brand new condition and that’s exactly how I’d describe it - I’ve never worn it myself, the original tag and rear vinyl are still in place and it appears spotless. However I can see from the (transferrable) warranty card that it was originally sold by7 CW as being ‘nearly new’. I’m not sure if that’s a mistake, or there’s a tiny blemish somewhere that I can’t see, but I’m just giving you the full picture.
It’s fitted with the CW Tropic rubber strap which has a carbon like finish on initial viewing, but becomes like alloy checker-plate when you get in close.
When I put it on the Timegrapher it’s showing as keeping perfect time of between +7 to +8 seconds per day per day, so just outside COSC specifications, but well within CW’s +/-15sec tolerance.
It comes as a ‘full set’ complete with original case including owner’s book, warranty card and unused polishing cloth.
