CHRISTOPHER WARD C65 TRIDENT DIVER GMT ANTHROPOCENE LIMITED EDITION ORIGINAL PROTOTYPE

When Christopher Ward launched the retro style C65 Trident Diver in 2018 they will have hoped it was a success, but I doubt they were expecting it to be quite as successful as it has been. It’s been a great seller and has already spawned many different iterations and (now sold out) special editions - and this listing is for one of them.

The watch for sale here is the original prototype (serial number 000) for the 300-piece C65 Anthropocene Limited Edition - inspired by the Scottish Opera's Anthropocene and by the environmental issues we face. You can read far much more about the watch’s design and inspiration process in Christopher Ward’s Winter 2019 edition of Loupe magazine - a copy of which is included with the watch. It features on the front cover and is also covered by eight pages of editorial.

It was launched at the end of 2019 (at a cost of £1000 on a rubber strap or £1,100 on a bracelet) and sold out in 2020 - although CW did find a couple of ‘archive’ pieces (usually press/showroom type samples) under their sofa which were sold in early 2021.

It’s powered by the automatic GMT Sellita SW330-1 movement. If you’re not familiar with GMT watches, they feature an additional hour hand which takes 24 hours to complete one rotation of the dial - making it a perfect international travel partner. This is because you can set the regular hands to your local time and the 24h GMT hand to ‘home’, so you can instantly see the time and home and avoid accidentally calling your partner at 3 in the morning to say “hi”! By rotating the bezel, and therefore moving ‘midnight’ to elsewhere on the dial, you can create a third time zone.

Condition:
It’s in great condition. There are a couple of tiny blemishes on the left side of the case and a few very light ones on the case back, but other than those, it’s a minter. The CW Hybrid rubber strap is in near new condition.

It’s in perfect working order and the timegrapher is running at a very respectable +6sec per day (CW state +/-20sec).

It comes in the original CW bamboo case with unused polishing cloth. Also included is a letter explaining that it’s a prototype model and no user manuals were available at the time of sale.

The warranty card is unfortunately missing, so I can’t give you an exact age for the watch. Being a prototype piece for a model that went on sale in October 2019, it was probably made early in 2019. As it will have no CW warranty, I’ll guarantee it for your first 90 days of ownership.
