Christopher Ward C60 Trident-Pro COSC 43mm

Introduction

The Mk1 C60 Trident hit the watch world in 2009. It was available in a Henry Ford style ‘any colour you want, as long as it’s black’. The initial price of just £300 was a ridiculous bargain and the watch was an instant hit. Fast forward to 2012, CW introduced the CHR. WARD logo and also added blue, red and green models to the lineup. The base price had gone up to £440 for a rubber/leather model and £510 on the bracelet - still a pretty good deal.

Also in 2012 CW dipped their toe into C60 Chronometer water for the first time with the launch of the C60 Trident-Pro COSC. It was visually very similar to the regular model, but hawk-eyes will notice the ‘TRIDENT-PRO” on the face was switched with ‘CHRONOMETER’ as a nod to its COSC certified Chronometer credentials.

With a retail price of £675 on rubber/leather and £735 on a bracelet, it was quite a premium over the basic model and sales were pretty slow - it took until 2015 to sell all 500 limited edition pieces. But with the passage of time has come a greater appreciation for this, the first ever Limited Edition C60. It is now a pretty collectable piece for those in the know.

This particular watch was sold in January 2015, so it is one of the later ones that CW sold.

Warranty

As a January 2015 watch, the five year CW warranty has expired, so it comes with a three month Ward Hoard warranty.

Strap

It is fitted with a polished links stainless steel bracelet of that era. I think there is one link missing, but unless you have gorilla size wrists, it will easily fit particularly with the diver’s extension! 

Price includes this bracelet - other options are:

• Fitted with a CW leather, hybrid or tide strap instead: reduction of £60

• Without a strap: reduction of £100.

Condition

It is in good used condition. It has been worn, so there are a few light blemishes from use here and there, including some light marks on the bezel around 24-26 and 46 minutes.

The original rubber straps on these start to split around the buckle holes if they’re worn regularly, but there’s no sign of any splitting on this strap.

It comes boxed with user guide/Certificate of Authenticity and unused polishing cloth, however the COSC certificate is missing. It’s running at approx. -14 sec per day, which is a little slow for a COSC certified watch, but is within tolerance for a standard C60.

In summary, it’s a nice, collectable, but very wearable limited edition C60. The minor negative points are reflected in the asking price.
