CHRISTOPHER WARD C1 GRAND MALVERN MOONPHASE
The C1 Grand Malvern Moonphase was introduced in 2017 as the sleek and stylish replacement for the more slab-sided C9 Moonphase.
It features an ETA 2836 automatic movement which has been modified by Johannes Jahnke, Christopher Ward’s former master watchmaker, who now works as director of development at movement manufacturer, Sellita. JJ Created his ‘JJ04’ module which adds the moonphase complication. As well as telling the time, this C1 also follows the moon’s 29.5-day cycle as it journeys across the sky, taking in every part, from ‘new’ moon to ‘full’ moon. You can read more about them here and here on the CW website.
This model was retired in 2020, but when it was available the cost was £1,400.
This is an archive find watch dating from Jan 2021, so it’s one of the very last that CW sold and likely one of the last new condition ones in existence.
Condition:
The watch is in pristine, brand new condition, only handled for the photpgraphs.
It’s fitted with a brand new black CW shell cordovan leather strap on a Bader deployant clasp - these straps are available from CW at a cost of £115.
It’s a Jan 2021 watch, so the transferable movement warranty is valid until Jan 2026 if serviced by CW between years 3 and 4, or Jan 2025 without that service.
Offered as a ‘full set’ in the original CW bamboo case including user book, warranty card and unused polishing cloth.
As you can see from the timegrapher photograph, it’s running at approx. -5sec per day - almost meeting COSC spec (-4sec to +6sec). CW specify a tolerance of -10/+20spd for this model)
