CORUM ADMIRAL’S CUP CHRONOGRAPH 50 LHS

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned… yes, I’m offering a non-CW watch for sale!

No, I’m not planning to open the site up to all makes/models, but when a good pal of mine asked if I can help him sell a watch and he’s selling it at a very good price, I thought I’d try to help him out and also offer fellow CW fans something a bit different at a bargain price (if you’re anything like me, there will be a few non-CWs in your collection to mix things up a bit!).

The CW C60 Mk2 Chrono is affectionately known as ‘the beast’. If that’s the benchmark, this one would be called the ‘absolute monster!’. It’s a BIG watch!

It’s a Corum Adrimal’s Cup Chronograph 50 LHS to give its full title. It’s got a 50mm case, it’s 18mm tall and has a 25mm lug width, so you’re gonna need to be pretty big if you don’t want it looking more like an arm clock than a wrist watch!

Once I’d processed the size and got into the details, I’ve learned it’s actually a very cool thing (and was a very expensive thing at £7,000 (the RRP was £8,000) in 2009 when he bought it). The case is Titanium. The crown is on the left (I have a soft spot for left crown watches - my Breitling A41350 is a favourite of mine). And it’s dripping in really nice details and touches; from the over-sized tang buckle, to the 12 nautical pennants on the dial flange, the multi-layer dial, the pivoting chrono pusher, the fitted strap in super soft/comfortable, yet super strong silicone and many more!

It’s a limited edition run of 888 pieces, this is number 211. Corum call the movement their CO753. It’s actually a COSC certified, modified ETA Valjoux 7753.

On Chrono24 there are currently five available; three in all black and two in the Titanium finish like this one. The cheapest is a £2,600 no-papers one in Romaina (so well over £3,000 once shipped to the UK and taxes are added) to a somewhat optimistic £9,900 for a new one in the USA. The cheapest one ‘with papers’ one is £4,350 and is in Portugal - so that would be over £5k once landed in the UK. At the risk of sounding like a dodgy second hand car salesman, I think the watch for sale in this listing at £2,750 is great value and priced to sell…

Condition

It’s a full set, box and papers, one owner watch dating from September 2009 - even includes the very nice Corum pen which is in as new condition and fetch around £150. The soft leather document wallet is flaking a bit on the surface of the bend.

It’s keeping perfect time and check out that 0.0ms beat error on the Timegrapher photo! Needless to say, the chrono operation is also working exactly as it should be.

The watch was worn mostly on a different strap, so the original Corum black silicon strap is in great condition with just some light scratching on the Titanium tang.

When it comes to the watch head, you’re gonna struggle to actually wear a 50x18mm watch and not have it knock into things. This watch has been worn, so it has lots of light marks and blemishes dotted around the case and bezel. There’s not really any real ‘damage’ to report. The only ding worthy of specific mention is at around 38 minutes on the edge of the bezel.

It’s a watch that looks much better in the flesh than it does under the harsh LED lighting of my photography cube. As always, I’m managing expectations with my description because I always like people to think their purchase is better than they were expecting, not worse, when they open it up.

As far as I can tell, this is the cheapest with-papers example on the planet - please correct me if I’m wrong! I’m confident the buyer will receive an unusual, great value and very obviously premium quality Swiss watch.
