WH589 C60 Abyss GMT (01/2022)
CHRISTOPHER WARD C60 ABYSS GMT
Introduction
Christopher Ward first dipped their toe into the stealth watch water in Jan 2016 with the launch of the Mk2 C60 Titanium Version 1. It was retired in 2019 with the arrival of the C60 Mk3, but I guess the sales were decent because CW included their first ever ‘Abyss’ model in their 2019 range. The GMT version, which is the one for sale here, arrived in 2020 alongside the range-topping SH21 Abyss which cost more than double that of the GMT and three times that of the regular model!
For those not familiar with how a GMT operates, they have a second ‘hour’ hand which takes 24h to complete one lap of the dial - so 12 midnight on the GMT hand would be at 12 o’clock and 12 noon would be at the usual 6 o’clock. That makes it perfect for instantly knowing the time in a second time zone (perhaps at home if you’re in another country). By rotating the bezel to set the 24h markings to another time zone, you can instantly tell the time in a third location.
Some watches look just as good in pictures as they do in the flesh, but I don’t think that applies to this watch. It’s pretty tricky to catch all the different black and grey finishes on this watch in photographs. Some surfaces have brushed matte, some are satin and some corner highlights are mirror polished. And I have to confess I never even spotted the two-tone bezel on these until I saw one in the flesh - looking back it now seems obvious! I guess the point I’m trying to make is this watch looks really special in the flesh.
It’s the little details that I love about this watch - such as the filled black in the red GMT hand.
Is it easy to tell the time? No, not especially - it’s a stealth watch after all! The lume isn’t much to write home about either - the photo definitely flatters the lume.
Is it sexy as hell? Damn right it is!!
Although originally launched with a unidirectional bezel and the SW330-1 movement (42 hr power reserve). The later version (V2) has a bi-directional bezel and the new SW330-2 movement (56 hr. power reserve). This model is the later V2 version with the bi-directional bezel and the SW330-2 movement.
Strap options
Comes on an almost new CW black/red hybrid. Can exchange for another hybrid, tide or leather. Please ask for other options - I may have a good, used bracelet.
Warranty
It comes with the balance of the CW manufacturer guarantee through to January 2027.
Condition
The watch is in great condition - no marks of note.
On the timegrapher it’s keeping great time, registering approx. -3 sec per day - comfortably inside the +/-20sec specified by CW.
It comes in the CW bamboo case including warranty card and polishing cloth. No instruction manual - but this can be found online.
Note that the GMT hand doesn’t precisely line up with the hour hand (not uncommon with these movements). It is well within warranty, should you wish to get it fixed with CW.
